SUMMARY:Live Reading: "The Iowa Plays"
DESCRIPTION:Live Reading: “The Iowa Plays\,” by Kathe Mull \nSaturday\, October 10th\, 2026\nHomestead Village Church Museum\nFurther Details TBA \nOn Saturday\, October 10th\, playwright Kathe Mull will be joining us here in Iowa for the first public reading of her new work\, “The Iowa Plays\,“ four gentle one-act comedies that feature life and friendship in Iowa. \nKathe Mull was born and raised in Muscatine\, Iowa\, where she graduated from Muscatine High School. She went on to attend Muscatine Community College on a drama scholarship.\nFollowing college\, Kathe joined The Old Creamery Theatre Company\, where she performed as an actress for several seasons. Later\, she also directed On Golden Pond\, starring Tom Milligan and Deb Kennedy. \nKathe later became a member of the resident acting company at Charlie’s Showplace in Des Moines\, Iowa\, where she performed for eight years before relocating to New York City. \nMore than 45 years later\, Kathe continues to call Manhattan home\, where she has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding career in the theatre. Her work has included acting\, directing\, serving as a Broadway star dresser\, and\, most recently\, playwrighting. Drawing on decades of experience both onstage and behind the scenes\, she brings authenticity\, wit\, and a deep love of theatre to her writing. \nKathe is thrilled to join TKM Productions and the Amana Heritage Society in presenting The Iowa Plays in its first public reading. It is a special privilege to share these stories—celebrating the people\, history\, humor\, and heart of Iowa—with audiences for the very first time. She hopes audiences find a little of themselves in these Iowa stories. \nShe is especially looking forward to enjoying her first Maid-Rite (without ketchup\, of course) since 1974.

SUMMARY:Live Theater: "Heart Balm\," by Janet Schlapkohl
DESCRIPTION:“What is the cost to mend a broken heart?” \n  \nJoin us for a live performance of “Heart Balm\,” by playwright Janet Schlapkohl at the historic Homestead Village Church Museum. “Heart Balm\,” is the story of a young German immigrant who discovers love\, a new occupation\, the Iowa court system\, and herself. Doors will open at 6:30pm and the show will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets are $25 per ticket\, or $20 per ticket for members of the Amana Heritage Society! \n  \nClick Here to Purchase Tickets! \n  \nThe Homestead Village Church Museum will play host to this performance as an introduction to the future of the museum. The Church Museum will remain an integral part of the Amana Heritage Society’s interpretation of the cultural heritage of the Amana Colonies\, telling the story of the Inspirationists. As we work to further develop the site\, the Church Museum will also become a venue for educational and entertaining musical and theatrical performances\, focusing on the history and heritage of the state of Iowa as a whole. In order to rejuvenate the Homestead Church building\, we need the support and participation of our community and visitors. The Amana Heritage Society is excited to host this event to initiate this rejuvenation. \n  \nTickets can be purchased online or at the event when doors open at 6:30pm on June 28th. Please call or email the Amana Heritage Society with any questions at 319-622-3567 or amanaheritage@southslope.net.
