The Amana Heritage Museum is comprised of three nineteenth century buildings, set on spacious grounds. The Noé House, built in 1864, was originally a communal kitchen and later a doctor’s residence. Exhibits in the Noé House trace the formation of the Amana religion in Germany, along with the history and development of Amana, and display the varied crafts and industries of the Inspirationists. Special exhibits and programs focus on particular aspects of Amana’s culture. The Schoolhouse was built in 1870. An audio visual presentation on Amana’s history is shown regularly in the Schoolhouse auditorium.
The original washhouse/woodshed, an integral part of communal Amana, houses agricultural and gardening displays.

Established during the communal era in 1857, the store’s exterior and interior have remained unchanged all these years. The original tin ceiling, wooden floor, and glass-topped display cases still remain. Throughout the store are charming reminders of the good old days, of a simpler time, of the past preserved. They just don’t make stores like this anymore, and there sure aren’t many of them left in existence! The store is truly a “museum” and an authentic general store in one.
We have stocked the shelves with an interesting variety of hard-to-find trinkets and unique treasures from days gone by. We offer a wide assortment of gift and food items, toys, books, housewares, handmade soaps, and much more, all reasonably priced. Everyone is sure to find something that brings a smile to their face.

This Amana Community church building is one of seven Amana village churches of the Community of True Inspiration. Built in 1865, from local brick, this church building looks much as it did 130 years ago.
Hosts guide visitors through the church, explaining the religious background and history of the Community of True Inspiration, and the present day Amana Church. You will learn about the architecture of the church building, and the beliefs and practices of the Amana Church Society.

Built in 1863, the “Rüdy Küche” (Ruedy Kitchen) is the only intact communal-era kitchen remaining in the Amanas. The kitchen is preserved as it appeared in 1932 when it served community members for the last time. Visitors can see the kitchen with the large brick hearth, the dry sink with its wooden tubs, and the original implements used to prepare meals. In the dining room, tables are set for a communal meal. A guide explains the daily routine of the kitchen workers.
The Cooper Shop was built c. 1863. On exhibit are tools and products of the cooper’s (barrel makers) trade.
