Friday, December 12 – Part 1
5pm-6:30pm: Enjoy light refreshments at the Homestead Folk Art Museum while learning how to make Marzipan Cookies, one of the most traditional cookies in the Amana recipe arsenal. After making the dough and getting the cookies ready, they need to set overnight before baking. While you’re here you’ll have a chance to tour the Homestead Folk Art Museum and learn about holiday traditions in the Amana Colonies and how they grew and changed over time and place.
When we’re done with our Part 1 of the Holiday Heritage Workshop, you’ll have plenty of time to head to Amana and catch the show, “FRUITCAKES!” at the Amana Performing Arts Center!
Saturday, December 13 – Part 2
9am-11am: Join us back at the Homestead Folk Art Museum after breakfast and work on making split ash ornaments with Molly. Now that the cookies have had time to set, we’ll bake them while we work on the ornaments and talk about folk art traditions. At the end of the workshop you will have your own hand-made ornament and some holiday cookies to take home with you!
After Part 2, there is plenty of time to visit the Tannenbaum Forest in Amana and spend some time finishing up your Holiday Shopping!
