Description
The Cooper Shop is one of the most significant structures in the Amanas. It is one of the only original cooperages in America to contain its original coopering tools. It has been in constant use from its construction in the 1860s until today. With your help, we can preserve it as an active interpretive space that showcases one of the most documented trades of communal Amana life. We recently won a $8,000 grant to fund nearly half the preservation work. In 2026, we will curate 250 tools that comprise the cooper shop collection and write a comprehensive history of coopering in the Amana Colonies.
